How to Burn Palo Santo with Intention
How to Burn Palo Santo with Intention
An invitation to reset, reconnect, and release.
Palo santo, or “holy wood,” is a sacred tree native to South America. Traditionally used by Indigenous communities for energetic and spiritual purification, it is now widely embraced as a tool for restoring balance and peace in the home and heart.
What you’ll need:
- A stick of palo santo (ethically sourced from fallen wood only)
- A lighter or match
- A fireproof bowl or heat-safe surface
- An open window or door for airflow
How to burn it:
-
Light the end of your palo santo stick.
-
Allow it to burn for about 30 seconds.
-
Gently blow out the flame- it should begin to smolder and release fragrant smoke.
-
Move the smoke around your space, body, or object with intention.
-
As the smoke rises, take a moment to release anything heavy or stagnant.
-
When finished, rest the stick in a fireproof bowl and let it extinguish naturally.
Why we burn:
- To cleanse energy after illness, visitors, or emotional heaviness
- To start a meditation, ritual, or new moon ceremony
- To create a grounding moment of pause in a busy day
- To reconnect with your own inner clarity
Palo santo is not meant to mask or bypass emotions, but to create a sacred space where you can meet them with presence.
